Dr. James Swann graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (VetMB) in 2010 and spent two years working in a small animal hospital. He then completed both a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery, and a Residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine, at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, receiving Board certification from the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2016. During this time, Dr. Swann conducted research on the immunology of dogs with autoimmune anemia, for which he won the International Canine Health Award (post-graduate) in 2015. Since 2016, Dr. Swann has been conducting research for a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in immunology and hematology at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford. Dr. Swann holds grants for clinical studies of dogs with autoimmune anemia and arthritis from the Kennel Club Charitable Trust and Clinical Studies Fund of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
