Purr-ogress on the Prevention and Diagnosis of FIP

Despite incredible advances in prognosis due to novel antiviral therapy for FIP, the world of new, rapid, cost-effective definitive diagnostics and modern vaccines have lagged substantially behind. This session will explore groundbreaking advances to rational vaccine design and cutting-edge diagnostic technology for FIP. The fields of FIP prevention and diagnosis have historically been stymied by complex host-pathogen dynamics and the unusual pathogenesis of disease. Attendees will learn about how innovations in the field are reshaping the landscape of FIP management beyond antiviral therapy.

Presenter:

Dr. Terza Brostoff, DVM, PhD, DACVM

Dr. Terza Brostoff's primary research goals are to develop and use clinical tools (diagnostic tests, vaccines, antiviral therapies) both to improve patient care and to study hist-pathogen interactions for both humans and veterinary species. She has extensive experience in molecular microbiology and immunology, with projects spanning the fields of pathogen discovery, novel assay and diagnostic test development, and vaccine development on multiple platforms. Currently, her laboratory is growing to develop diagnostic platforms using Raman spectroscopy as a novel approach for use in veterinary medicine. They are also developing novel vaccine platforms for use in veterinary species. She has a strong clinical background as a practicing veterinarian with board certification in veterinary microbiology (subspecialties virology, immunology) and have led multiple animal research trials in both laboratory and clinical settings.
