Join us for our monthly virtual presentation facilitated by experts in their field.
4:00 - 5:00 pm (Eastern)
TOPIC: Regulation of host-microbiota dynamics at the intestinal interface during health, infection, and inflammation
Presenter: Dr. Seika Hashimoto-Hill
This program has been approved, for one (1) hour of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.
The microbiota, comprising trillions of microbes residing in the gut lumen, profoundly influences host health and disease. In my years of veterinary practice, I frequently encountered conditions caused by disruptions in microbiota and recognized the limitations of available treatments for these animals. Now, as a basic science researcher, I strive to understand the complexity of the host-nutrition–microbiota interplay, with the goal of contributing to the development of effective microbiota-based interventions. In this seminar, I will present recent advances in epithelial biology and intestinal immunity regulated by the microbiota including my own research and discuss their potential relevance to domestic animal species.
Dr. Seika Hashimoto-Hill is a veterinary clinician-scientist with expertise in both basic and translational research, specializing in mucosal immunology, intestinal homeostasis, and the microbiome–diet–host interface. With board certification in Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and a Ph.D. in Immunology, she bridges clinical insight with scientific innovation to advance understanding of diet-driven immune regulation in human and animal health.
Currently, she serves as an Instructor and Affiliated Faculty member in the Theresa Alenghat Lab at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital/University of Cincinnati, where she investigates how dietary components and the microbiota shape mucosal immunity and intestinal homeostasis. Her work aims to translate mechanistic discoveries into targeted nutritional and microbiome-based interventions for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory, metabolic, and chronic diseases.
Our monthly presentations are one hour long and cover a variety of topics we believe you will find interesting and educational. Also, all sessions are recorded and made available in our Resource Library for viewing on-demand by our members at a later time.
